Collective acts of kindness reach campaign goal in record time

“I still believe in unicorns,” says Meharoona Ghani. And there is magic in her story.

Meharoona is a published writer currently working on her book - an autobiographical journey of identity and belonging. She has also done extensive work as a Community Engagement & Diversity Specialist to educate people in various sectors about diversity, inclusion and invisible ability challenges. Part of her book is about her 17-year journey with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

In spite of her challenges, Meharoona sees herself as an MS Warrior and is continuing to strive towards her dreams. One of them was to get the Alinker. Meharoona explains that “the Alinker is a mobility device – a type of bike – that helps people reclaim their freedom and independence regardless of mobility challenges. This unique “walking-bike” makes it possible for a person to stay active, socially connected, and emotionally engaged in the community in a fun way. The Alinker allows a person to walk (or be stationary) while sitting on the bike and it allows one to be at eye level with others who are either walking or standing beside the person.”

Meharoona started a crowdfunding collective campaign to raise funds to get an Alinker. “The Alinker can get me active again," she says. "It can get me close to nature again. It can help me feel independent and free again. It can help me to continue to educate others about people with ability challenges.”

Four days after launching the campaign, Meharoona's goal of US$2200 was reached, and offers of support were still coming in!

Meharoona feels deeply moved by the support of this radical generosity and collective impact. And she can still use any extra support to help others. “Although I've met my goal, if there is any additional funds, it means I can pay it forward which would be a great honour to help others to get an Alinker to #keepmoving,” she says. “Let's show up for each other.” If you would like to help Meharoona to keep paying it forward, please visit this site.
